Day 2. PCT 13.3 miles

Mosquitos mosquitos mosquitos... they were nasty this morning.. We woke up pretty late as our campsite didn’t see any sun until almost 9:00am, and we left around 9:30am.

The lake we camped at. Lake Susan Jane in all her Morning Glory

Claire going down some steep switchbacks

The one thing that we might’ve seen more of than mosquitos today were wildflowers. They were everywhere!

Favorite pic of the day. Looking down at Trap Lake

A cool dedication sign

Glacier Peak I’m the distance with Glacier Lake in the foreground. Something you don’t see everyday!

As you can see from the pictures, it was a beautiful day! The terrain was varied and interesting, and the elevation kicked our butts! We are just a little bummed about all the damn mosquitos! I thought they’d already be a little sparser at this point in time but boy was I wrong. Everywhere we stop, no matter how far we are from water, some will find us in 1 or 2 minutes. It makes for a frustrating day when you can’t stop and smell the roses.

In order to make the miles we needed due to our late start, we pushed hard into the evening, and the only reasonable place to camp was at Deception Lakes. This place has the WORST mosquitos we’ve ever seen. Worse than any spot in the Sierra Nevada. When I initially unzipped the tent from the outside for Claire to get in, over 15 got into the tent in the span of about 3 seconds. We almost lost it. It’s a huge bummer. We are planning to have a 5am start to avoid the beasts and get some more miles in to beat the rainy weather forecasted for Thursday. Since it’s 9:25pm I better go to sleep! 17.5 miles down, 54.5 to go!

Thanks for reading!
