Three Sisters Loop (David Only)

Although Claire and I have only been back from our trip for less than 24 hours, the hiking bug continues to itch! I was texting my coworker Brad and he told me he was doing the ~50 mile Three Sisters Loop over 2 1/2 days and leaving tonight! I was in! :) He picked me up after work and we cruised down to his house and met his buddy Nick, who he worked with at Crater Lake for a number of years. We headed out and stopped for some Subway on the way down to split up the 3.5 hr drive. 

We arrived at Pole Creek Trailhead around 11:15pm. The night was so beautiful and calm we decided to just cowboy camp right at the trailhead. I laid awake for about 30 mins watching the Perseid meteor shower, and then finally drifted to sleep under the stars.

Day 3. Three Sisters Loop 13.1 miles.

We all woke up a little earlier than expected. Maybe it was the excitement of finishing early and getting some real food in Sisters. Or maybe I just got up early and my dang sleeping pad is so loud... In any case, we were up and at em and after breakfast and chai tea, we started up out of the Green Lakes Basin, to gorgeous views of Broken Too and South Sister. We got back to the Pole Creek Trailhead just before 1:00pm, and zoomed down the forest road towards Sisters for burgers and beer!!! Table for three, please... After gorging ourselves with all the yum yums, we drive out to Detroit Lake to break the perfect trifecta and jump into a 4th lake of the trip since it was over 90°!! Day 4. PCT 16.5 miles

Well, that happened. Super crazy winds last night blew a bunch of dust into our tent. None of our previous tents had this issue, but were seeing a trend here with this one. Because of all the dust in the zippers they are already getting hard to pull and it’s a brand new tent! Might have to contact them soon.  Mornin’ Sun Peak We slept a little more than the night before since the winds kept us up for awhile. We camped at the bottom of a big 7.2 mile climb and in the morning that’s how we warmed up for the day! At least it was beautiful out!! Waptus Lake Today was ALOT better in terms of lack of mosquitos. We only had to really worry about them at the very tippy top of our 7.2 mile climb, where we stopped in an absolutely gorgeous meadow to have some lunch!  Lunchtime pano Ahhhhhh!! Day 5. PCT 14.0 miles

Whew! What a big-view day!! We woke up from our little treed zone but not before Claire woke to another deer cruising too close to our tent and scared him off. There’s some big deer around here! Side note: I’ve twisted both ankles at least once so far (unlike me), and my body is really telling me about it today... in general, we are both hurtin! When we left our site, first stop was the waterfall just 0.2 miles South. Next we climbed up and up into some more forest and really cool color purple stone. Alrighty, time for he big views! There wasn’t too much to say about the hiking today other than the terrain was pretty tough (rocky, slabby, scree-y, and steep), the temperatures/cloud cover were undecided, ad it was really really scenic! Enjoy!  Big view coming up some switchbacks  No space to sit at the top for lunch?! Relax right in the middle of the trail!! Complete with wind-blocking kitchen  Marmots chirping away  Marmots hanging out  Babe in all the colors...
