Travel Day! (Sunday)

Today, we met the rest of the group at our house, printed out our permits, and left Portland around 9:00am. It’s a really fun group consisting of Megs and Nick, Davey and Vicki, Paul, and Michael who will be meeting us up North. 

We took of on I-84 and then 97 towards Yakima, stopping there for lunch at this amazing Mexican restaurant where everyone who wasn’t driving (thanks Nick!!) had two margaritas! The food was super bomb too. 


Our carpool up to Leavenworth: Myself, Claire, Megs and Nick! Always the first car in the caravan to food, and always the first with margaritas in hand... 

After eating like insane people, we got back in the car and all passed out (thanks again Nick).

Luckily by breaking the 6 hour drive up in half, it didn’t feel too terribly long! Leavenworth is a really neat Bavarian-style town. It feels like the gateway to something very special, and it IS!!

We did some last minute errands in town and checked out some cool shops before we headed out into the mountains! 













I have been here a couple times before but it was really cool to see the entire “Main Street” blocked off and now with outdoor seating all over. It definitely made the place feel more open and spacious. 

After getting all we needed from town we headed up to our AirBnb for the night. This place is AWESOME!

As much as we’d love to stay longer, we’re headed to the Snow Lake trailhead early tomorrow morning to hike the Enchantments! Speaking of which, I need to go to sleep!

T-minus one day till blast off! Early tomorrow we drive up to Leavenworth with our friends who scored us the Enchantments permits! So stoked! Day 1. Three Sisters Loop 19.2 miles.

Holy smokes. What a day! Where to begin?! At the beginning of course!  My sleep set up last night, with North Sister hiding out There you are!  Since we slept at the trailhead, we had a picnic table to eat breakfast at and a very clean toilet to get us started off right! When I repacked my sleeping bag into my pack I realized how empty it looked and decided to reorganize my backpack, putting the entire tent inside (which normally hangs out in the left water bottle pocket.) Not too bad for 50 miles and a full tent and food!  I didn’t weigh it but my estimate is “light” :) I was pretty happy with my pack for this trip. The weather is fair and the temps are forecasted high, so I brought my 40° Enlightened Equipment quilt (14oz), instead of my 15° Mountains Hardware mummy bag (2.5 lbs). I also brought an emergency rain poncho instead of a full rain jacket. The one thing I am more stoked on than my gear list are my fellow hikers! Me, Brad, and Nick Brad is my good good friend ...

We’re Baaaaaaaaack!!!

Hey everyone! It’s Claire and David! (David writing). First off, thanks so much for following on our PCT adventures in 2016 and 2018. If you’re new to the blogs and would like to check out my daily blog posts from both years, the address is teeheepct.blogspot.com Alright, so I’ve decided to start another blog to document our upcoming adventure for the summer of 2020. We are so very excited for the big moves we’ll be making in the next couple months!  First, it’s off to the Enchantments in the Washington Cascades for a 4 night 5 day backpacking trips with some of our very good friends! Then, we’ll head east to Steven’s Pass and the Pacific Crest Trail and embark on a 240+ mile backpacking trip Southbound back towards Portland.
